Browsers

The InterWorld Radio website should work on any computer running a mainstream browser from version 4 and above - Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, and so on. Contact us if you have any problems seeing the site with the browser you are using – email .

Metadata

Metadata is ‘data about data' - such as the journalist who produced a feature, the IWR producer who worked with the journalist, the date the feature was created on, which country the feature is from, and so on. IWR is part of a consortium of like-minded organisations that have developed a joint metadata system – the Shared Online Media Archive, or SOMA – that will make it easier, in the long-term, for users to search all our databases for content. All the content you'll find on our website has been marked in this way, so it's generally easier to find, both through our site, and, eventually, through others. SOMA has been developed with the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative in mind. Dublin Core Metadata ( ) is a set of widely-adopted metadata standards and specialised vocabularies for describing online resources, enabling information management systems (databases, archives, and so on) to be better designed. SOMA has also been designed to be compatible with the work of the European Broadcasting Union and their Core Metadata Set for Radio Archives ( ). Among the other SOMA partners are the Community Media Association ( ), One World ( ) and Amarc ( ). SOMA developed and extended both Dublin Core and EBU to cover multimedia services such as InterWorld Radio and can be viewed at .
